I know more than one or two of you have been trying to repair/replace the Crank Case Breather pipe. Mine snapped on my XKR and I have been looking to sort out the problem for some time.

I have managed to fix mine and find a possible solution to replacing the pipe itself. The fix write up is a long one and is pic heavy, easy to do though.

I have never looked at mine what are the symptoms of the crack/split?
Does the pipe tend to split in the same place, due to heat etc, on most cars?
If so it looks like it might be possible to fit the heat shrink without removing the whole pipe, what do you think? Or would the pipe be liable to split again, in a different place, if bent too much?

It would be possible to heat shrink it in position. Obviously depends on where exactly the break is. You will need to protect behind the pipe though as you would not want to burn off the paint on the car. Also as you mentioned you may break the pipe again if you have to bend it to fix it. If I were to do mine again I would remove it. Its a hassle but less of a hassle than having to do it twice or more.

I actually removed mine as I was trying to find a replacement pipe. I put up the how to remove because someone may wish to remove theirs for what ever reason, and the pipe could break in a spot you cannot get to. Also gives you a chance to clean the throttle body.

To be honest when I started that thread I had no idea that others would be following it and the information, feedback and advice I have had from you guys has been remarkable.

My original intention was a simple aide-memoire so I could keep track on what I had done. But after 2,272 replies and 124,552 views its grown to much more than that.

Still a lot to do...................

 

Jaguar has in their infinite wisdom discontinued certain parts for 10 year old vehicles, among them the breather pipes for XK8 4.2L engines. In the very near future I will be able to supply brand new AJ87221 Full Load and AJ88622 Part Load breather pipes for 4.2L XK8s to OEM specs and for the XKRs shortly thereafter. If your Norma V2 connector ends are still okay and not cracked, you can just send them to me to install on a new pipe. If you have an interest please contact me at vanremog@aol.com for details.

 

Thanks for the offer. I did try and find replacement Norma connectors but the ones I looked at only sold to 'The Trade". I also tried to find the pipe too.

Anyway its sorted. Been over a year and, touch wood etc, worked really well and actually looks like its been on there since the car was new.

 

This is mine on 2000 xkr. Flex conduit l used on my solar power install is a perfect fit. Locks onto the norma fittings like it's made for it.
Only downside is l have metres of the stuff left over from install and only one breather needing replacement.

l now have myself a leak from the connector on the breather pipe Part AJ88622 referenced in your thread. The part is no longer supplied. Can you advise latest guidance on how to tackle this?

Hi everyone, I'm a new member although have enjoyed reading contributions recently. I own an XK8 (2003) and a Mark 2 240 1968. Formerly owned a 1973 E Type roadster and an XJ (2012). as i already posted there is a problem is sourcing supplies of the breather pipe part number AY88622 (formerly AJ83931 or AJ83920 I think). I saw a post from Frankc dated 2016 which links to a write up of a solution but the write up is no longer available. Can anyone contribute an up to date solution on this?
By the way I have a unique solution to Fuel tanks imploding which I will post at some time.
