Funny to see this thread. I have my car in the dealership for the 2nd repaint on the panel, it was actually returned to the dealer today from the paint shop. They say it is very common. I also have the stereo kit going in today which will take out that nasty rattle on my door panels. This is the second time they are doing this on my car as the first time was a patch job and done before the service bulletin was put out. Hopefully this is the last time I need to address these two issues.

So I got the car back from the dealer. They re-painted the whole right panel in their in-house body shop. It looks good now and the color match is good as well. Let's hope the problem does not happen again on this panel or on the other side. I am kind of disappointed that I had to re-paint the car at this early stage of ownership, but what to do . Do you think that this will devalue the car in any way? specially if this is a common problem in F-Type?

I believe this has been said before, but the paint durability on the F-Type is really disappointing. The paint is very delicate and chips easily. I already have one small chip on the hood, and the car only did less than 1000 miles in 1 month of ownership. I was planning to install Xpel on the car two weeks ago, but this paint issue has delayed my plans.

Re-spraying minor parts like the rockers, rear bumper, etc., won't affect value if done well. What does affect value is evidence of a collision.

It was more common on earlier cars, but JLR supposedly added a layer of insulating material behind that panel which protects that joint from chafing. There haven't been many complaints on later cars. However, my 2014 hasn't had the problem either.

My 2016 F-Type has the same issue. I purchased it 3 weeks ago with what I thought was wax residue. The dealership had no idea how the paint was gone from both sides and thus had the rockers repainted...took a week to get done

2 days later the paint is gone again from both sides..I am reluctant to have the same dealer resolve with the TSB that I provide them...any ideas?

Damn, I noticed the SAME thing on a lower panel on mine too. Honestly, I never even thought about it being a defect and getting Jaguar on the hook for it.

Thanks guys. Calling this week.

My post from yesterday shows the same problem on my S coupe built in January
of 16 with only 87 miles on it. Does anybody have the date that the foam backing fix was instituted by Jaguar on the assembly line?

So are folks still seeing this problem? I just noticed that my 2016 R has this starting to show up.

Problem got worse. Scratches on side windows got worse. Radio speakers got worse. Dealer got worse. Traded it in on a new Maserati Granturismo Sport. No
paint issue,no speaker issues,no glass issues,no dealer issues. Live and learn.

And with a lot of luck the Maserati will even last through the warranty period. The F-Type speaker rattle is a warranty fix, as is the glass scratching, as is the paint problem (agreed that ideally none of these problems should exist). But if defects bother you, then an Italian car might not be the best option. I would be happy to be proven wrong, and I wish you a good experience with the Maserati.

You assume that I haven't tried to have the dealer rectify these items. Forgot to mention the leather seat bottom on driver's side sagging, the Jaguar emblem on the rear hatch falling off,the hood not fitting properly...all with 700 miles. Got my money out before the 4 cylinder comes out. I'll take my chances with the Mauser, thank you very much.

I also wish you luck with the Maserati, beautiful car, horrible service history. A friend just returned his fully loaded Ghibli after 37 trips to the dealer in less than two years. But the final straw was four weeks ago when while doing 85 on the freeway, he lost all brakes and had to stop with the emergency brake on the shoulder. Maserati payed him back for all of his payments and took the car back. Hopefully, your experience will be good.

Thanks guys. Reading your comments on this forum was a most useful tool
In dealing with my issues. The Granturismo has been in production for 9 years.
I hope they have resolved most issues. Good luck to you all and thanks.

I've had this fixed 3 times, approved body shop finally devised their fix and problem has not reacurred. It was fixed under warranty. Dealer says at least thru '17 new cars were still showing it! They did some shaving instead of extra padding as Jag recomended, could never get fitted with the padding.
