2002 XJR sticker on tank says "dual pump model" but cannot find ANY parts suppliers that specify dual pumps. Replacements seem to cost from $40 to $400 so has anyone any experience selecting both correct pumps AND at a reasonable price? Thanks
Lady Penelope,
Thanks for your suggestion, actually I have read and performed every test and diagnosis I could find in every posting on the forum which has led me to believe the problem is the pump(s) itself so I am now trying to determine which mfgr/pump is the most workable. My only concern is that no one seems to specify a "dual" pump configuration nor do they simply state "two like pumps are required" or similar language. Delphi and Airtex certainly have pump listings and DO specify them as "fitting" the XJR but no one says "use two"
Since you have 2 pumps you can jumper the # 2 as it doesn't come on until the ECU sees 4000 RPM . Then do the # 1 . This will split the problem in 3 parts being power , pump , or control circuit .
One thing to note is the fuses are after the relays and not before , have you checked the fuse under the real seat ?
Your question made me curious so I've just checked jaguarclassicparts.com, jaguarmerriamparts.com and the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog, and all the diagrams show only one pump. However, the Electrical Guide shows that the supercharged cars to have two fuel pumps and two fuel pump relays in the trunk fuse box.
Both are recommend to be changed if you do as a while you are there and have the tank out as Motorcarman ( Bob ) suggest . There are check valves in the pumps that trap fuel pressure in the fuel lines that cause starting problems and if 1 is bad the other fuel pump is comprised in this aspect . To test both fuel pump check valves at the same time get 1 of the pumps to run and after a hour or so check the valve on the left fuel rail by opening up the fuel pressure testing port on see if you have fuel spraying out . This testing port is not on all V8s . This would predicate whether you change both at the same time as well .
I have not had my one fuel pump out to physically see the check valve so I can be wrong .

I bought two of these, for $14 each, when my primary pump failed (Sears.com). So it's the same pump for the primary and secondary. It's also a direct fit, which means no need for splicing or anything, unless your link leads have burned (common thing to happen when your fuel pumps go out). It's been several months and so far they have held up.
Wow, Thanks much for all the suggestions and info, especially to AZjag1999 for the tip on the inexpensive pumps from sears - what a deal!! All of the testing suggests that only the #1 pump is not "running" but I will replace both anyway. Car has 94K miles so I guess I should be grateful the pump lasted this long. I will post after they are replaced to let you know results.
There are many posts on fuel pump replacements, but what I did since I couldn't get the fuel lines from under, is that I cut a flap of metal behind the back seats (I had to remove the back seats for this) and made the accessibility for the fuel lines much easier. You need a circular saw for this though. Some people have found luck doing it from the bottom, but it is very difficult and will bruise or cut your arms.
