Coil Springs MJA2162AA Spring Packer How Many?
Hi,
I started building new front struts with all new parts for my XKR. Coil Springs, shocks, seat, upper mount. But how many Spring Packer on the Lower Seat do I need? I stopped because I only purchased 1 per side. I saw pictures with up to 3 per side.
Thanks,
Rich

I just did mine and it had 3 black ones and the white "required" one... I got rid of two of the black ones and it's fine (and I did keep the white one also).

*****Note: I found the part# after searching the forum further. Part# MJA2162BB. Apparently it is no longer available, so I guess I'll be using two of the black packers.
I hate to bring this post back from the dead, but I'm rebuilding the suspension on my 2003 XKR. Does anyone know the part# of the white packer that seems to align the spring? Mine deteriorated badly, and basically crumbled when I disassembled the strut.
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

It would be awesome if someone with a 3D Printer could make this White Packer which suits at the bottom of the springs (front). I had to epoxy mine when I updated my shock mounts (Wayne’s) since they are NLA. I suspect these would be a hot seller item.
On the plain black spacer, note that R performance cars do not have one fitted.
The correct white packer has a slope to match the spring end. The 3-D print is a great idea, else you must fasten your broken old one back in with silicon or other as they are no longer available from dealers.
Plenty of threads on this on the forum.

Just as info, there is a 5/16 inch or right at 9MM height difference between the last round spot on the coil off the seat to the flat area end on the spring at the bottom of the coil.
Most of spring packers you buy are all flat at the seat area. Some are sold with a drop but I have found nothing that applies to the size we need. Looking at baxtor's, he did an excellent job of replicating the clip on plastic piece and a great start, thank you Steve. Not having the slop for the 1 3/8 inch might or might not be a issue on install. Not sure?
Where the problem comes in on making 3D part is the same issue we have already, a bloody half of a Jaguar is resting on top of these two plastic pieces, if they were not locked inside all the other parts at the bottom of the spring, they would be laying all over the road.
The area on the seat that is straight, or 90 degrees from the seat is very short, so too much packing will raise the bottom of the spring very close to the rounded area of that metal retainer. If you hit a hole and the suspension drops, I see the potential for the spring to pop over the bracket, coming out of it's contained area. Of course, it will bang around a couple of times and fall back with any luck, but at speed, it could get very exciting.
Energy Suspenion makes a very close fit except the thickness of the bottom is 1/4 inch (8MM), which is too high and could cause the problem I just talked about.
Kelly did try it during a experimental stage of assembly and with all the other new parts put the height measurements over the top, beside a possible problem of coming out of the seat.
I'm thinking about how I'm going to do this, make a one-piece poly seat, but I just told everyone how to do it. I really need a bottom seat off the front spring; just never had a whole strut I didn't have to use everything to put it back together. Bunch of other junk, LOL.
When the garage gets above 32 degrees, I'll go down there and see what I can do. If anyone else, in a warm place is going to try, let me know, you can have it.
Oh, the Energy Suspension part that would work if you sanded the bottom down to about 3/16 and don't mind the gap that won't touch, or will it when installed??? Part 9-9114
I would call Energy Suspension, but they had no interest in the top mounts, and I was giving them everything.
There goes my million-dollar idea.

"Correct" depends on application. The spring base packer shown in my pic (normally grey colour)is as factory fitted to 2000 XKR " with R features", these are also not fitted with the black plain spacer.
Thanks Steve, you did a great job and I can see the inside clips also must take up a bit of space between the spring and the collar of the seat, spring is a loose fit without that part. Bummer.
Interesting it doesn't have the step down on the R system, once again, a lot to consider when making the small parts we cannot find.
You at least have a solution for some, maybe most, just don't think that gap is of any great significant problem, a loose gap between the spring and seat, yes.

These are not the same as the required white packer which sits at the bottom of the Shock. Baxter’s is close.
