Brake Lamp Failure indicator on even though lights are working
I checked all my lights and all of them seem to be working fine. Why does this keep coming up on my dash? I have tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting. what could it be?
Here we go again - electrical problem? The battery is always the first thing to check!
A weak battery will cause all sorts of electrical problems. Use a digital voltmeter and measure the voltage across the + and - battery terminals. You can do this with no problem because you have a 2007 model, before the Battery Monitoring System (BMS) Module was introduced in the 2010 5.0L models. 5.0L owners risk damaging that BMS Module if anything is attached to it, including a voltmeter. If your battery has less than 12.6 volts, charge it with a real battery charger (not a maintainer or trickle charger) - at least 10 Amps. Test it in the morning, before you start the engine. If your battery is over 3 years old, I recommend replacing it. Make sure the new battery is fully charged before it's installed, as many "new" batteries sit on retailer's shelves for years discharging.
Even though your battery is probably a standard "flooded" (a.k.a. wet cell), you should consider replacing it with a newer technology AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat a.k.a."Gel") battery. They're a better choice if your car isn't your daily driver. You can Google "differences between different types of car batteries" to learn more.
