I wouldn't go as far as "the GTR spanks everything". It has been proven many times that it cannot take on the ZR1 and it costs more.

Ok i stand corrected, the ZR1 costs 10k more. Oh well in the long run it will cost alot less. Oh and BTW for those of you that dont know...

If you turn off traction control it voids the warranty in the GTR

Hmmm, according to ZAG, you can get a new GTR for $85,8. You can get a new ZR1 for about $100,4. So the real world difference in purchase price is about $15k.

Thanks for that Doug, after thinking about it it gets even better.
How bout in ten years from now?
The Japanese thing will be a distant memoryand IF you ever see one on the road it willbe a very big deal, "Wow do you remember that car?"
Move forward twenty years and which car will be the bigger deal to drive?
When ever I see a Russian car on the road I perk up and say "WOW theres a Lada!" (or Niva or Dnepr etc) and it IS a treat to see one, but that DOESN"T MEAN I want one. Get that?

So in ten years seeing that Japanese thing will be similar to seeing the Russki cars.

I am not as literate on this subject today I am supposed to be working, but I think you all get it.

Just like Alan's pointing out the ZR1 is $15K more. But which would you want to be the owner of in say 10 years or so. Most of the cars that the GT-R can or cannot beat, including the Corvette will have a bunch more cache especially as time passes.

I don't know. What's more ho-hum than a Corvette?

Really? Okay, with the latest generations they are a lot more ubiquitous than the older models. Still, there is at least some history and "legend" associated with the marque and probably the best bang-for-the-buck if you are looking for something exciting and still relatively unique.

Absolutely agree that they are great cars, but they are so friggin common today that I could never see them as having cachet or any sort of collect-ability value in the future. On the other hand, Nissan GT-Rs are much more rare, and are also a fantastic bang for the buck, as this Top Gear test demonstrates. Truly one of the most significant cars of its time. Now, Nissan may not have as glorious of a heritage as the Corvette, but let's not discount the Z cars. They have always been pretty good. That's more than you can say about some older Corvettes...

Corvette? Ho-hum!

(Then again, the ZR1 is a completely different class than the normal C6, but something about being based on a high-volume sports car irks me a little bit in terms of the "coolness/uniqueness" factor.)

Completely agree with amcdonal86, the Nissan Z cars have been on the go since the 60s.

I owned a 350Z for just over two years before trading in for my 54 plate XKR, and i absolutely regret doing so. It was by a million miles the best car i ever owned.

The only reason i moved on was due to looking for better performance and i have always loved XKRs and been a dream of mines to own one.

What i didnt prepare myself was non-japanese engineering, where everything seems to be tempramental or just plain faulty.

I never had one single fault on my 350Z and the drive and smile it put on your face every time you turned that key and heard the V6 burble into action.

I expected more when moving up to a 4.2 V8, perhaps i need to remove one or both the rear mufflers to get the desired affect though?

Sorry if i am being a bit negative, dont mean to be but its not right bashing things like Nissan or the GTR which is my ultimate car to own.

I have contemplated many times trading in the Jag and then i walk outside and take one look at it or feel the bonnet lift when you press the gas pedal hard on the floor and go from cruising to flying in the blink of an eye and all is forgiven.

Totally agree with the sentiment that it is not right bashing any brand. Period!

About 4 years ago I had the dubious privilege to be a passenger in a much modded twin turbo Skyline (don't know what you call it in the US).

By gum, did this saloon shift. I knew it would be quick, but it didn't look anything super special from the outside; Until my mate hit the loud pedal. Oooohhhh craaaaaap.

Yeah... all that is great about the XKR-S... but WHY in the world has Jaguar yet to move to a twin screw and blow its competition away? I mean jeez... I can get 600 hp from a twin screw on my 03 XJR... You would think if Jaguar would want to toy in that supercar arena...they would would go all out.
