Default trans leak

I have a bad leak at the rear of the trans. I jacked the car up and put a jack under the pan, removed the rear trans mount and run the car in drive for 5 min. Not a drop of fluid. It seems like it only leaks with the trans mount on. With the mount on I can push the trans up and down, I guess that's because of the spring, but The it moves the engine also. I can bounce It with one hand real easy. It move a good 2 inch. Is that normal? Thanks for any help.

Two inches is a bit much I'd say. You probably need a new center cushion thingy. Rubber, looks like a spool of thread.

Does the leak occur only if the car has been sitting for a day or two?

Cheers

Which model of car do you have? If the GM400 boxed V12 pre HE (which Doug is referring to) the spring will be shot as well as the rubber damper with that sor of movement. If the leak is coming out of the end output shaft area that is bolted to the propshaft, then that is a gearbox shaft seal problem.

If it is coming out of the pan/box joint then that is a replace the gasket job. IT may also be that your two rubber engine mounts are shot too.

There is no cushion. The spring goes into the spring cup and into the upper spring seat. Its a 6 cyl trans. Does anyone have a picture of the mount?

Here is the 6 cyl trans mount.

Please put your car details in your signature. That saves a lot of gues work.

The 6 cyl trans mount is "kinda loosey goosey", as Doug has stated a few times over the years.

I am not aware of any specific fluid leak areas on that ZF trans.

The guys on the XJ40 and the X300 section might know more, as that is the standard driveline in those 2 models.

My mount only has item 1,2,4,9,10. It doesn't have those other parts.

Never studied the XJ40 or the Z300, no need to.

Looking at that picture, that lower spring and all its associated bits are contained in teh cup assembly as part of #1. So, #2 to #8 are all bolted together with #18 bolts X 3.

The rest of it is outside that arm/cup assembly. Quite complicated and inticate in my opinion.

Hopefully someone here has an answer, or the guys on the XJ40 might know more.

I don't have all those parts. My spring goes into the lower cup and then into the upper cup. No parts bolted together.
