Default Relocating to SC

Hi all, I am not new to the forum, but plan to move from the northeast (NJ) down to the Myrtle beach/Murrells inlet area some time around June. Was wondering if any SC people had any advice in general about the area. Was also wondering if down there I will be able to drive my car (2007 xkr) year round? Or will I need to keep my other car as well? I am thinking a sun shield for the windshield may be a good idea? Anyone know a jag service place or an Indy that is good with jags in that area? I welcome any advice. Thank you

I live about 4 hours North of there, in coastal NC. You can drive your Jag all year round, no problem. Except for hurricanes....

Thanks guys. Also: do you have to have a front license plate on the cars down there (I'd love to be able to get rid of that), and I currently have AS tires, do you guys down there do summer tires year round? That would be nice.

While searching for houses, my criteria has been: garage for the cat and yard for dog... The important stuff

Jen - no front license plate required in SC. My car had a front bracket but I removed it and sold it to a fellow forum member

As for tires - I'm running Nexen N7000's - which are all season. You could probably get away with a summer tire

hopefully the house search goes well

Thanks everyone for the info. My move went well... Although my car pitched a fit on the 11 hour drive down and decided to clog her AC drain somewhere in VA!! By the time I arrived in SC the passenger floor was completely soaked. I had had no idea what happened until I arrived. For now I used a hair dryer to dry the floor as best I could, sprayed some ozium for the musty smell, and have a bucket under the glove box until I find a reputable shop locally. But so far loving SC! What a beautiful place, and everyone has been super friendly

Just a quick update.. i found a shop and the owner was familiar with the car and has fixed a few AC drain issues in xkr's before. It sounds promising, I will update again if it goes well in case anyone else local is looking for a shop.

Update:

Got my car back today. They had to keep it overnight because they had to wait for a part. The price seems fair and I believe they were honest. The AC is working properly again. I had originally posted with a clogged AC drain, but due to my move, I wanted to get the car in and it took me a little while to locate a place I trusted, so unfortunately, the delay cost me. My AC stopped working entirely... Water damage to the blower motor. I checked the part prices online and was charged correctly. And that was the quickest my car has ever been in and out of the shop. I went to Auto care specialists here at The Beach. If anyone needs their info PM me.

Than of course I washed and waxed her, because I was happy to have her working properly again

Update: ignore my last post about the car being ok and the shop doing well... My baby had to go back there 3 times since that post, and is still leaking. They didn't charge any extra, but I do think they are in over their heads with such a special car. So I was referred to another place by a friend, and will see how this one goes. They are scheduled to start working on the car on Monday.

Hi Jen
Did you find a good mechanic in Myrtle Beach? I need to get a water pump replaced on my Jag

Hi, sorry it took me so long to reply. I started a new career down here as a real estate agent, and it has been time consuming.

To answer your question, no, I have not found a good mechanic that I would recommend as of yet. I was able to get my car repaired, however, would not recommend either shop I went to.

I wish I could be of more help. If I find a good place to go, I will let you know.

I know a lot of people like to avoid dealers, but if it's hard to find a good mechanic dealerships are your next best option. Other higher end dealers will work on your car too (Lexus, BMW, Audi etc..)
