02 X-type not starting, (securtiy failure)
I just bought a 02 X-type 3.0 manual wednesday and I am having a problem. It was starting ok the fist couple hours, but then later wed night my problem started. The first time it only took a couple tries to get it started. Then the following day (turkey day just my luck) I got stranded at Denny's for a bit, and then at the gas station for about 30 minutes. When I go to start the car, all the instruments, nav system, windows and lights and everything seem to have plenty of power and work, but it won't start. On my odometer after a second or two it clicks over to saying Security Failure. If I keep trying, it will randomly decide to start up and drives and runs fine. At first I was thinking possibly the battery was getting low from being inactive for a couple months. So I drove 100 miles south to see some friends and that didn't seem to fix it. I was hoping that would charge up the battery if that was the prob, but now I am stumped again. HELP, Any suggestions?
Any would be great.

P.S. and just my luck I went out to double check the code and noticed I have a flat tired, WTF, am I cursed?

RE: 02 X-type not starting, (securtiy failure)
hey bro, sorry to hear about your problems...
Your security failure code is an indication that something is not right with the alarm system or some tempering has been detected.
Try this next time. Lock and unlock the car with the key FOB, Unlock with fob and try to start it. If that doesn't work, you will have to take it to the dealer so they can pull the code and see what's wrong.
Another problem is a bad ground someplace.....that will be determined from and if any codes are pulled...
As for your your flat, don't feel bad, just noticed i have a deep gash in the center of my 130 dollar tire with only 5k miles on it....
good luck, and let us know what the outcome was...
Thanks

Yeah, i tried arming and disarming already. That was one of the first things I did. I talked to the dealer and he is thinking that there is a sequence issue with the key fob and the car that the dealer needs to reset it. GAH, first day with a car, already pissing me off, is this a sign that I shouldn't have bought it, I hope not. just changed the flat, and to continue my luck, as I was rolling the spare from the trunk to the front tire, it went right through a big pile of dog crap. YUMMMY. The streak continues.

This sounds like the intermittant key fob failure due to static build up (service action S527).
Static build up in the lock mechanism discharges into the fob and messes it up somehow.
I suggest that you take the fob to a dealer and ask them if this can be rectified as part of the service action (i.e argue that it is defective manufacture and should be warranty at no cost).

Well, thank god it was a Certified Selected Used car from Jag, which extends the warranty, so the starting problem is fixed so they say. I should get it back tomorrow, now I just have to find a Nav DVD for it and the dealer wants $535, THATS F'n NUTZ. Anyone know where I can get a Nav DVD for an 02 X type?

RE: 02 X-type not starting, (securtiy failure)
OMG, my local Jag dealer must be staffed with retards!!! So, I go to pick up my car cause they say they are done with it. I am picking it up at the import dealer that I bought it from because they are the ones that sent it in for its work and were doing some small stuff to it like putting a new battery in and such for me. I pull up in a taxi, pay and get out. I see the service manager (great guy, VERY helpful and wanting to make things right) looking at my car with one of those looks. I walk up and say hi, and he just kinda shakes his head. As to my recollection he says, "well, we got the car back, but it still has the same problem." What do you mean, I thought they fixed it. "I don't know, we got it back after they said it was good to go, put a new battery in it, (had alternate power source attatched while changing in order to avoid affecting any programming) and went to start it up to move it outside and it wouldn't start" OMG, what the F. Send something into the dealer and they just hold onto it for a week, give you the run around about y its taking so long, like having things shipped over from the UK, and then give it back not fixed right? Well, come to find out they did do something to it, just not enough. If you got in and pushed the clutch down and then turned the key it wouldnt' work, flashing the security failed warning. BUT, if you turned the key to position 2 (on) then depressed the clutch after the electronics loaded up and then start it, it worked everytime. Called jag. All they could say is, We are sooooo sorry. So had it towed back to them because they didn't want us starting it anymore then needed. Got a call and they say they have it starting EVERY time now, BUT, they want to hold it over night and look at it again in the morning just to make sure. And at the end of the conversation, I find out that they would have paid for a rental car for me to drive while my car was in the shop. He offered it to me tonight, THANKS BUD. The night before I am to get my car back after you having it for 1 1/2 weeks you finally let me know you would have suplied me with a car instead of me borrowing one. Yeah, F stick. lol. So, hopefully tomorrow when I go to pick it up it was actually be fixed. GAH, I hate dealing with incompetent people. Damn good thing this was all covered under warranty.

Man the people at my jag dealer weren't that gay!!! Incompetent people are extremely irritating and they are in full force these days! Hopefully you like the car though man because even with problems I've had I still love the car. If you don't mind me asking where are you located and how much did you pay? What about the mileage and all of that. Good luck with the rest!

RE: 02 X-type not starting, (securtiy failure)
I paid $15,750 or so with all the DMV fees and charges added on. 02 x-type sport w/ 3.0 manual transmission, limo tint windows, nav system...... pretty much the only options i have found that it doesn't have are the heated seats, automatic transmission (which i don't want), and Jaguars form of onstar. 58,000 miles or so and its a "Select Edition" by jaguar meaning on 3/18/05 they inspected it and extended the warranty out to 6 years 100,000 miles. BTW, book on it is about $19,900. pretty sure i got a good deal on it. Kinda looking at it as a temp car, possibly sell it in 6 months for the profit and do it again.

Security Failed Message
Hi guys,
i'm really getting pissed off from this Security Failed message.
The dealer (Beirut, Lebanon) maid me pay for a new Key Cut Which did not solve the Problem.
I'm trying to explain to them the problem but either they are incompetent or simply don't want to work!
What should i do, can i report this to Jaguar International?
thanks guys for any help possible

Security Failure
So I had the same problem, so I disconnected the negative terminal on my battery and then waited a few minutes which allowed the computer to reset. Then turned the key, depressed the clutch and the car started right up. Hope this idea works for you as well. The nearest Jag deal to me is 3 hours away and I think their shop rate is $150 per hour.
