Default 04 x type 2.5 overheating

Hi my 2004 x type 2.5l is building up back pressure in the overflow tank. I recently changed the thermostat ad it had fell apart.before then the temp indicator show when the car was hot. Now it's not moving above normal and is building pressure in the tank. It's seems to be leaking somewhere on the bottom of the tank or is there a overflow on the tank? The car is not showing to be hot and fans do not turn on. Please help with this problem thank you

Bryan, first off, welcome to the Forums. Lots of good info here and tons of people that will share the info with you. So, stick around and learn a lot about your car. But, we do ask a simple thing from you. We like to keep this place a very friendly one and as part of that, we like to get to know one another. Please stop by the New Member section and tell us a little bit about yourself and your kitty. This will also give you a chance to meet those that make this place what it is.

As for your problem. Odds are you are suffering from a common issue with the X-Type. If you open the hood and look at the overflow bottle, you will see 2 ports sticking out the side of the tank, back along the firewall. The one on the left side (nearest the brake booster) has a tendency to develop a crack in the nozzle and will cause a coolant leak. If this is the case, then you have 2 solutions that members here have found that work:

1) replace the overflow tank, or
2) drill out the nozzle, obtain a new nozzle from your local hardware store (most recommend a brass one) and then slide the nozzle into the drilled hole from the inside and glue/seal the nozzle in place.

In a rare case or two, some members have found that their tanks developed a leak on the underside. So, you may want to remove the tank to verify this is not the case. But in 99% of the cases, it is the nozzle that has failed, not the tank itself.
