2.2 diesel EGR valve problems

If you have an electric one, then the engine light might come up and car might go into limp mode. It wont do any damage. Its actually good for your car: fuel consumption will improve a little, car runs a bit smoother and has a bit more power. Intake will stay clean. Downside is that emissions are a bit higher and car might take a little longer to warm up.
The point of having an EGR system is to reduce the emissions. It directs some of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold.
Replacing it is very easy: EGR is on the lower left corner of the engine, right next to the air filter. You need to remove the air filter housing and engine cover, it is held on by 4 nuts and one jubilee clip. Undo these and pull the EGR valve out.
You could try to clean it first. Use some carb cleaner and a lot of scrubbing. Make sure you dont do this at home and DONT wear nice clothes. The gunk that is gonna come out from the EGR is very nasty.
