charlie, it is sounding like you are having an issue with the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The sensor is getting a bit warm and then reaches a break over temp and goes into a failure mode. Start with replacing the sensor and doing a visual of the wiring. Then lets see what you have at that point. Another thing before you replace the sensor, get the codes reads. That may give me a bit more confidence that it is the sensor that is bad by the code you get. Granted, also do a quick look at the level of the coolant in the overflow bottle. If you are running low due to a slow leak, that may be the source of your problems too.

I'm having the same problem.. I usually put the heat on. Even though this time of year would call for my air conditioner to be on. The heat being on usually brings the engine temp down to normal. My jag overheats just driving in stop and go traffic and when I let the car idle for more than 20 minutes. I dont know what to do.. Thermostat?? Sensor? dont know..

ditenorio, see my post in your other post. I think your problem is more fan controller based, not sensor related.
