Default 2002 X Type Sport 2.5 Automatic Known Problems?

Hello,
I'm a current owner of an 2004.5 2.5 X Type 5 speed manual non sport package and have not had a single problem for the last 30,000 miles, the only maintenance I have had to do has been an air filter, oil changes, and some new tires. The 04 X type has been one of the best cars I have ever owned as far as reliability and fuel economy (I average about 30 MPG city/highway 35/65 driving) and about 32 when it's primarily highway. I thought about migrating to a 2002 X Type Automatic Sport/Premium package 2.5 since I love my current car but the 02 I am looking at has some more features and about 15k less miles i.e. sunroof, sport 17" rims, i think everything but the touch screen nav (not sure if it has the factory xenons or heated seats) etc. My question is, if I switch to get those features, am I most likely going to get problems with them? Can anyone chime in on the actual fuel economy they get from the 2.5 Auto compared to the 2.5 Manual? From what I had remembered the 3.0 Automatic had more problems but was wondering if anyone had any input on the 2002 2.5 Sport Auto's reliability and what I should be on the look out for? All input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Stan

Hi Stan,
just quickly as I'm caught short but wanted to answer your post.

The X type 02 has a fair few more teething problems issues to look out for than the 04 you currently own..........check out some of the historical threads on the subject.
Mine was an 02 however, and I have to say I had very few issues with her.
Some of them include.

Drivers door handle issues
Dash vents popping up.
Tranny whine.....unsure if this was cured on later models
Squeeky steering
as well as a few other issues to watch out for

Good luck

Jim

Im no mechanic or expert other than a loving owner of an 02. But from the research Ive done, although Ive had no major problems from mine(knock wood), you are so much better off with the 04.If the sport model is what has you interested, if I were you, Id just buy upgraded 17s and get the trim pieces painted. Dont know what to say about the sunroof. Aftermarket on a Jag? hmmm. Anyway, good luck.

Oh, I forgot.....[sm=welcomesign.gif]to the forum.

Hey stunna...............good advice there from queenmb.
You say you love your car and have had very few problems if any....why change?
I'd certainly get the chrome all sorted out, do the upper n lower mesh grilles and a new set of 17'" Sport alloys.............most of which you can get off Ebay at very reasonable prices...........job done!

my 02 automatic gets 19.2 in the city and 25.5 on the highway. epa estimates the car at 19 and 24. i would also agree on upgrading your 04 with new rims, painted pieces and a mesh grille. i have a sunroof on mine and it never gets used. good luck

Default quick question

Hi. I have a 2002 jaguar x-type with the 2.5 engine. My mechanic is fixing my engine, but I can't find any gasket kit for my 2.5 engine. Can you help. Or the gaskets that it has are rehusable. Thanks in advance, and have a great day
