2002 XT 2.5L Doors will not lock with Fob
Hello,
I have been searching through posts and the many I found about door lock issues do not relate to what I am experiencing.
I just bought this car, have not owned a Jag for many years and the ones I owned wer pre 80's so not a lot of electronics in those.
I cannot lock the doors with the keyfob. when I press the lock button, the marker lights flash 5 times but the doors do not lock.
If I lock the driver door manually from inside the doors all lock. If the driver door is open when I manually lack the door, all doors lock, then after a second, they unlock.
I can manually lock each passenger door then lock the driver door with the key.
The fob will unlock all doors
The fob also can unlock the trunk.
I am charging the battery as my charger read it as 12v but 88% of full. (not sure if this would be the cause)
I do not know if it worked with the prior owner.

I came to check and see if anyone had any insights on my problem.
As I scrolled down I seen suggest threads of the same type of topic. Not sure why these would not display when i did multiple searches with many of the same keywords but at least I know to check after posting in case there is anything relevant.
What I found in these posts are a couple of things that could help others who stumble upon this post.
I do not hear chirping with my scenario but my marker lights blink five times. I am sure it is a clue somehow.
Suggestions on other posts included:
Low Battery
Faulty driver door lock actuator
The flap in the ignition module that should be closed when the key is removed
Bonnet or Boot sensor thinking either or both are still open (Both of mine maintain they are open even when fully closed)
Gearshift not fully engaged in Park Position
The second coming of Gozer
I will be looking for bonnet and boot sensor and try to replace them to see if that is the issue.

Boot sensor is inside the locking mechanism.

step 1 - remove the plastic lock caseing
step 2 - remove the lock assembly
step 3 - remove the lock actuator (the white electronic motor)
step 4 - look down the side seam of where the actuator pulls the lock mechanism in (opposite side to where u attach the wire) and you will see where the seam creates an L shape. apply a small amount of pressure to the seam around the corner of the L as if u were trying to split the houseing but without actually doing so. the actuator should release as you do this
step 5 - WD40 the actuator and push in and out a few times to get it inside the houseing
step 6 - put back together

Engine-Compartment Lid Ajar Switch Last Modified06-APR-2009 09:19 CategoryBody Symptom112000 Latches/Locks & Security ContentIssue:
On investigation of warranty returns it has been noted that the engine-compartment lid latch has been lubricated.
Cause:
Lubricant applied to the engine-compartment lid latch during routine servicing or for any other reason will, over time, migrate into the ajar switch and cause damage to the switch.
Action:
DO NOT lubricate the engine-compartment lid latch as this may cause damage to the ajar switch, which may result in a rejected warranty claim for the latch

I found the Bonnet alarm switch.
I took the boot off, jiggled it, put the boot back on it.
My problem I found is that the switch is good, when I press it down with my finger, the warning goes off. When I close the hood it stays on?????
Something not quite in adjustment. I put a small piece of wood on the switch and closed the hood and Presto! it works. I will figure something permanent to do.
