Fluids, change all of them. Do a search for transfer case fluid change, do another for TRansmission fluid change, then replace the anti freeze, rear differential fluid. That's number 1.

Then there are a couple of issues that seem to come up all the time. Vaccuum leaks are really common, but inexpensive and very easy to remedy.

Jag86, for the most part, how you drive the car is going to reflect in what it costs you to drive the vehicle. I say this with all seriousness. While this car is a Jag, I can not call it a sports car. the motor is only a 200 hp unit. Unfortunately, the transfer case is the weak link in the car. So, you want to zoom light to light. Plant on having a light wallet for a new transfer case is going to set you back about $3000. You drive sensibly, the transfer case will outlast the car. Can you never be hard on the gas, I'm not saying that. But, you push the limits , it is going to break.

The other problems with the car are fairly inexpensive if you can do the repairs yourself. Things like clunks in the rear end (loose bushings in the suspension arms) will cost you about $100 a side to repair. The radiator fan is probably the most expensive and that will more than likely run you about $300 (buying a used fan assembly with the controller). But, all these prices are based on you doing the work yourself. You go to a shop and while I hate to say it, they are going to love you. Shops see a Jag and they will think you have tons of money and will charge accordingly. Not saying all shops will, but I can find more stories about people paying way too much than those that got a good deal. A lot of it is most people are not familiar with Jags, so, they are learning as they are going which means they require more shop time. At $100/hr, the bill can climb really fast.

For the most part, this car is not any worse that any other car on the road. If you can get it for a good deal, go for it. If you need help, hollar and I am sure someone will pipe up and help you out.

P.S. Welcome to the site. Do some looking around. There's tons of information here and I am sure you will find out more about the car than you care to admit to.
