Default 2004 hit on rear qtr panel

Our 2004 XType 3.0 was hit in driver side rear quarter panel on private property. The driver who hit us is repairing the damages using a shop we agreed to. Thought it would be just a sand, fill, and paint rear bumper. Once they took off rear bumper a plastic arm on inside of the bumper assembly was broken and not repairable so entire rear bumper is now being replaced. Any things that I need to be on lookout for as this is repaired? Any differences in rear bumpers that I should watch for? Thanks

That plastic support can be plastic-welded right back on.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. You have done a lot of work on that car so I know it hurts.

The body shop indicated the break in the plastic piece is an integral part of the bumper panel and how it broke I can't see how it could have been plastic welded. It tore as well as broke where the force affected it. The body shop was painting it Monday afternoon and I should be picking it up Tuesday so will report back.

Well, as long as someone else is paying for it...you'd be surprised how chewed a bumper can be and still be reparable, though!

Just brought the Jag home from repair shop. I must say they did an excellent job. They showed me the invoice they got from the Jaguar dealer so this was new OEM bumper replacement. Cost the other driver around $1,400 all in to have my car fixed. I feel like they knew the body shop and got a bit of a deal so probably could have been much worse. For sure if insurance claim it would have been more. They color matched the paint extremely well. Time will tell but I received a lifetime warranty for the repair and workmanship. Fun fact - the lower valence that holds your backup parking sensors is not part of the rear bumper. I was skeptical they had put on a new bumper when I saw that dull gray piece but when I looked under new bumper and looked in trunk its definitively new bumper part.

Rob,
Do you mind saying who did the work?

The driver family that hit us asked for a second estimate using their preferred shop which was Lucky Auto Body on Pleasant Hill in Duluth. The place I normally use was a little more expensive so we agreed on this shop since they were paying. I am pleased
