Default 2004 X type AWD 3.0 - 2 sounds

At 29mph whether speeding up or down, frequently, but not always, get a high pitched whining sound...slip in neutral, or hit brakes, same...

Seems to be right side, but cannot totally tell. Wheel bearing?

Other sound is when I accelerate, I hear a slight sound like gears meshing, is that possible from the xfer console or are they totally silent?

Thanks

The first sound you mention is the prop shaft carrier bearing. Do a search on here and you will everything you wanted to and more about that. Very common problem. Some members have had success with greasing that, others it hasn't helped. More annoying than anything.

The second noise I really have no clue from your brief description.

Our 04' also has the same high pitched noise. I'll check the carrier bearing. Being our first Jag I wasn't sure what noises were considered normal. Is it hard to replace the bearing?

Default Prop shaft bearing

My 2005 did it last winter. I greased the bearing with the instruction on here. Forgot to heat the grease so it didn't work well, still whined. Didn't drive the car much until summer and it went away with the warm weather. Has not come back this winter. I'd like to grease it again when everything is warm. Lots of info on the forum. Changing the bearing is possible but rubber seals seam hard to find. I'd press the bearing off instead of beating it off as done by one of the guys on here.
Easy to grease an 05 with the instructions. Harder on 04, no notches to fit grease needle.

Default 2nd sound

I'd check the transfer case fluid for the second noise. I believe Thermo has a post that shows jacking the car up on the right side to drain the oil and then jacking the left side to fill. There is a valve and hose set up also.
