2005 2.0D Manual Transmission - Reverse light/Gear lever issue
Hi,
The reverse light on my 2005 2.0D X-Type Sport Premium Estate will ONLY come on if I pull the gear lever to the rear right of the gate. There seems to be a fair amount of play side to side when it's in any gear and the lever seems to be trying to self centre. I tried replacing the switch initially as I thought it had failed but if you look in the hole it came out of, you can see the mechanism in there move "just that little bit" extra which is obviously what it needs to make it work properly.
My MOT is due at the end of the month and as the new regulations Re: working reversing lights apply from May 2018 I need to try and find out if it's a big job/which parts will be needed to fix it.
I'm thinking it might be the linkage cable and maybe getting one from a breakers (funds are a bit tight) but just worried that it won't do the trick because it's stretched? I don't suppose there's any way to adjust the cables is there?
Thanks
Andy
