Question 2005 X-Type 3.0 Surging Problem

I am new to the site and this is my first technical post. My wife and I purchased this 2005 Jag X-Type 3.0 in sept. 2011. After some time the engine light came on accompanied by a very intermittent surging problem on hard throttle from slower speeds. Taking off from a stoplight and mashing the gas will get her "bucking" like she has a Burr under her saddle! Ease into the throttle and she glides along smooth as silk. I am searching past posts for similar problems to get an idea of which direction to go with this. Any informed replies will be greatly appreciated!

There is a breather hose just to the left of the throttle body, it goes from the induction manifold to a valve in the top of the front cam cover. Pop that puppy off and look it over really well. It may have a nice split in it that creates a good sized vacuum leak at times. Could be the cause of the bucking you mention.

Cheers,

sounds like an air leak, check your int seals they are a common area or the brake booster check valve

I too have the same problem with my 2005 Type X which a week ago I smashed the front end of my car by running into the back of my parked H-3 Hummer! It’s happened before where it lunged forward when I slowed down at a stop sign. I took it to my mechanic who replaced the air intake valve ($10 fix),and it seemed to have help for a couple of years. Now I have to figure out how to get the bonnet up because the latch was smashed up on impact. Of course the Jaguar dealership wants no part of getting the bonnet up and they don’t do body work! They recommended I figure out a way to get the bonnet up then they will diagnose the problem but of course charge me $452 to do that! They also suggested I may be going down on the brakes and gas at the same time. I checked for any recalls and found none! Maybe if there are similar stories on the forum there may be a class action that needs to be addressed.
