2005 X-type misfire code P0335. Crank sensor ?
I recently acquired a 2005 2.5 litre AWD X-type with a couple of faults. The 'check engine' light is on continuously and it cuts out at around 3000 rpm, when the CEL then starts flashing. Thought it starts easily enough from cold, it takes quite a bit of cranking to fire up when warm. Also, it frequently falters and stalls on tickover.
So far I have got myself a Memoscan U480 OBDII code scanner and read off the following codes:
P0302, P0303, P1313, P1314 & P1316 - all indicating misfiring;
P0335 (several times) - indicating a crank sensor malfunction;
P1384 & P1396 - indicating VVT solenoid malfunctions.
I am considering that my next step should be to replace the crank position sensor, clear the codes and then test again to see what I am left with. My reasoning is that the misfires and faltering could well be caused by a faulty crank sensor and the cutting out at 3000 is some kind of built-in protection.
Does this seem reasonable or could anyone suggest another approach please ?
Also, where will I find the crank position sensor and how do I gain access to replace it ?
Thanks in advance - help much appreciated.

Thanks for the info JagV8, the flashing clears to a steady CEL after about a mile or so. Hopefully no real damage has occurred yet.
Thanks for the diagram GGG - so it is right at the bottom of the engine on one side (end). I wonder which end ?
Could anyone help with how I access the crank sensor please ?
Thanks.
