Exclamation 2005 Xtype VDP trim

Hello ! we are new to this page !
My Wife has a 2005 X-type VDP that I need some assistance with. This is an all original car, After attending a show over the weekend we noticed that the boot rear chrome plinth was broken at the holding tabs as if someone had forcefullty pulled doen on it. I now have to replace it. Replacement seems pretty straight forward. The issue is locating it. Have found several for the non VDP but the boot release button is on the face where ours is underneath between the liecense plate lights, Does any one know the part number for this piece, Or supply a assembly diagram for the removal and installation og the new piece.

Hi LadyJag the plinth is for a model 03/05 on wards I think they changed from the version with the button on the rear to the newer version with button underneath. To remove its quite a simple job just take the interior trim off the inside of the boot to give you access to internal lid, there's 4 nuts that fasten to the plinth across the inside of the boot, and each end has a spring clip that just pings off use a small pair of pliers to grip end of the clip, it sounds like they've already come off yours. Refit is simple reverse.

Good luck

Thanks Hex Type ! I did notice the inside handle plastic is held in by two allen head screws and the latch cover is just the phillips head style rivets. Do I need to remove the complete grey pad from under the boot lid or just enough to access the 4 nuts. and 2 spring clips and release button connector.

Any thoughts on where I would be able to aquire a new one for the car or possibly a Part #

I prefer to remove the trim completely so I have easy access but you could just move enough to get to the bolts the trim around the rest of the panel are merely push grommets. The philips head rivets on the lock cover are only plastic trim fitments so try not to press on them as you turn the screwdriver as they wont losen that way, just lightly hold against the screw and turn they will come out without any pressure.
I manged to find a brand new plinth on Ebay last year for about £35 when I was having mine worked on, seems to be best place to look, particularly if you're not in a rush and can spend a bit of time looking for the right thing.

A good source of parts is to reach out to Dr Dome. He is a forum member that parts out x-types and see if he has what you need. Call or text 484-903-4813.

There's also an interesting thread on here where one of the guys cut out the JAGUAR letters on his plinth and wired a red LED behind so it lit up the letters, it looked very, very good, even though classing as "pimping it up" it looked classy and something id do if i had the capacity and not fat fingers...! I think he might have been making them for other members, he was based in the states, might be worth having a look heres the link.

Thanks everyone for all the info !
Having spent 7 years restoring a 72 Oldsmobile owned by my Father i have become pretty proficient in repairing plastic parts. So I was able to rebuild the plinth till I can locate a good affordable new plinth ! should hold well as long as the trunk doesen't get slammed. Here are some of the repair process pictures. by the way Welsh.net helped me by providing the correct part number #C2S38525 is the proper number for the plinth with the boot release button underneath.
