ABS light on NO codes???
I have a 2003 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 Automatic. My ABS light came on a few months ago, at first every now and then but now all the time when my doors lock. I took the car to a friend of mine that owns a repair shop. He placed his expensive (Snap-on) code reader on the car and advised me that there were no codes. He did suggest that I replace the positive and negative cables with larger ones due to a high volume of cables going bad (high resistance) on X-Types. I replaced ALL of the positive and negative battery, alternator, battery to fuse block and starter cables with 2 gauge. I also replaced the alternator and battery at the same time due to age and mileage. I know have excellent connections than before, .05 voltage loss from the alternator to the battery when vehicle is operating temp. and running but my ABS light is still on and no codes are showing. Does anyone have any suggestions to the problem? Thanks for your help; we are both at a loss.

jbrumme, like was mentioned, not all code readers can access the other computers (ie, not the ECU). I bet you will find that one of your rear wheel speed sensors is having issues and is causing your ABS light to light. That seems to be the common thing. But, that is taking a stab in the dark on the problem. You can remove the rear wheel speed sensors and look down in the hole. You should see a toothed gear in there. If you don't see the gear, then that is your problem. Also give the wiring to the sensor a once over. Normally the sensor is good unless the gear flew apart and hit the sensor.

Jeeves, unfortunately, with the front wheels, there is not visual check you can really do. All you can do is verify the front bearing is in good condition and go from there. Normally, the problem people have with the front end is the bearings get replaced (not the whole hub assembly) and the installer puts the bearing in backwards. By doing this, the toothed gear is put in the wrong place and it is too far away for the ABS/wheel speed sensor to see the gear. Hence, the ABS system sees the wheel as not moving, throwing the code.
