Automatic X-Type - Gearbox Oil Change
My X-Type is now over 14 years old and coming up for 90k miles. It is due its annual service shortly. The engine oil and filter will be changed by default - although I only do 8k per annum I am reluctant to leave oil for longer than a year. My question concerns the autobox. Someone (not the person doing the service) that for optimum life the autobox oil should be changed every 10 years or 100k, whichever comes first. This does sound sensible and I was wondering what others view on this was?

Yes and read the posts on "transmission" fluid changes in this forum. I have one with pictures. Follow the instructions explicitly! Especially measuring what drains out each cycle. If the first one is less than 3 1/2 U.S. Cups, put that amount back in anyway. I measured each drain, and replaced as you can read in my post.
I chose to do the drain, fill, start 14 seconds, repeat for my procedure as it made sense the old fluid was not mixing with the new as much. It sure seemed logical and worked well in my case. You can view each drain color change in the pics posted.
Btw, I did my transfercase and differential also, posted pics and procedures. I would suggest you do that now as well.
