HelloI have been trying to replace the Bank 2 sensor 1 02 sensor on our X-type. I have looked through the forums but cannot find out what is the best way to remove the sensor.
The sensor is behind the radiator and is difficult to access. I have removed the air box but cannot seem to get my o2 sensor wench around it. I have read that you need to remove the plastic coolant line but the bolts for this are at an angle and pointing down.
What is the best way to access this sensor and replace it with a new one? Is there a special tool that I need to make this easier?

I rented the o2 sensor wrenches from Autozone and had the girlfriend stick her smaller hand down in there to get it out and screw in the new one. (I handed her a cold Guinness when she was done)
I had to use the silver 7/8 socket that has a cut in it for the wires to get mine out.

 

So did you have to remove any parts to reach it or where you just able to do this without removing any parts?

Just had to remove the cover that says Jaguar and the air filter box

 

I cut the wires off my old sensor and used the closed end side of a regular wrench, worked like a charm.

 

How did you reach it. I am having a problem getting my o2 tool onto the sensor. I have read you need to remove the coolant pipe under the airbox but was trying to avoid this.

 

I did this a few months back. I ultimately removed the plastic coolant hose, which, like you, I was trying to avoid. It was easier with the plastic hose removed. Removing the air box and intake horn also helps for access. I have the open type of O2 sensor socket which fit after a little finesse, including widening the hole on the manifold cover slightly. Make sure you have a good fit with the socket, as it takes a bit of force to break the threads. Good luck!

If I recall there are squeeze type hose clamps on both ends and a screw that holds it in place. Will need to drain out some coolant first or catch it when you disconnect the pipe
