Battery, Check engine light

Battery, Check engine light
Hey fellas, here's the scenario-Wife admitted to hospital Wednesday night and the car sat in the parking garage until Saturday afternoon and the car wouldn't start. I figured it was the battery so I had it jumpstarted, had to go back into the hospital so I shut it off and she later started back up. The problem is that the engine light stayed on. I figured the limp home mode would come into play but I tested it out and it accelerated normally. I live 6 miles away from hospital and when I got there I shut the car off and turned it back on and the light was off. Well tonight I went to leave the house and it was dead again. The engine light was on again, I didn't try shutting it off again and turning it back on though. I just figure the light comes on because it trips the computer with a surge in power and once it's resetted when I turn the car off and turn it on it goes off. I was just wondering why this would happen, I was also wondering about a good place to get the right battery. I tried to find one online and they don't even state the battery I'm going to need. I'll be checking it out tomorrow to see if the local stores have a match for the battery I need. I haven't researched into this yet but I want to know if there is going to be a problem with the security system of the car when I take the battery off and put the new one in. I tried searching here on the forum and failed in my search. Any help appreciated thanks!

RE: Battery, Check engine light
Thanks guys figured it was just the surge in the volts was why but will I have to do anything special to replace the battery of my car? I.E. the security system and what not. I know newer chevys require the dealer to reset some things so the radio doesnt lock out. Just wondering though...

RE: Battery, Check engine light
Hey there bojangles thanks for the help, took the battery out this morning and the battery only had 340-360 amps with a tester. I'm going to go buy a new one right now though, I called around and nobody even had the battery except a local parts store called mazza auto parts (they carry american and import parts, I'm pretty sure they keep only american parts though, they are a good parts shop just a little on the expensive side but they are quality parts not imported from china, japan, you get the picture.)
Oh and Michael thanks for the comment, she's doing fine we just had to go to the hospital so she could be induced into labor last Wednesday. She and the baby are doing well finally at home. He was in the nicu (neonatal intensive care unit) the whole time we were at the hospital but he's fine they were just being precautious. Can't wait to get some good pics with the baby and the jag-temperatures here in michigan are so cold wife doesn't even want to go anywhere though!
The picture of the three of us was Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with about 8 hours of total sleep! It was worth it though!

Thanks anderson, keep yall updated I just replaced the battery it cost me almost 98 dollars out the door. Couple weird things popped up but hopefully all is well. Car cranks over as soon as I turn the ignition, you never realize how sluggish the cranking of your car is until you get a shotty battery! She purrs like a kitten now!

sorry I didn't read this post earlier. I had issues with my battery already as well. The dealer said 5 years was about what you would get before you need another one. (They charge about $180) I ended up getting one from Interstate batteries. They supply the dealer anyway. It cost me $109 so it seems like yo got a good deal! I searched everywhere and everyone laughed at me Any glad your cat purrs and glad to see everyone is well after what I am sure was a long week!

PS: to avoid any issues with the resetting of codes and such before you take the battery out if you hook up a battery boost pack to the connectors then discontect them from the battery (Leaving the boost pack attached) theninstall the new battery and reinstall the connectors. this way the car itself never looses any power and in theory it never nows it has a new battery! It worked for me!

Thanks crzycat yeah the battery I got was a pretty good deal compared to jaguar. They wanted 185+tax just for the battery. After the guy from jag said how much I said "is that installed too!?" I knew it'd be alot but that is quite a bit obsurd considering how much any battery costs. I've never paid more than like 80 dollars for a battery and I even had a full size pick-up truck that needed a battery and that battery was like 800-900 cranking amps and it was a huge battery. I did notice though that the battery inside the jag is a freakin' heffer, that thing is crazy heavy.
