So I recently had to replace the battery in my wife's Ford Escape, and, out of curiosity, I looked up the battery for my X-Type for a price comparison. I got quite a shock—instead of the $70-$90 that a typical automotive battery lists for at an auto parts store, the battery for the X-Type lists at $145! What in the world makes this battery so expensive? Is there a less expensive battery that will fit (and work well) in these cars? Since I know I'm going to have to replace the battery eventually, it would be nice to know in advance how much it's going to cost…

 

That price is right in the ball park. I paid $148 3 years ago for the Jag battery at a dealership. Of course you can replace it with any battery that will fit the space. But if you do that then you'll need to check the measurements etc. if you want to continue using the battery box and probably need to change the cable clamps and hold down bracket. I just figured it was much simpler to bite the bullet and pay the Jag price and be done with it.
