Default Blown engine

So my x-type has been sittin in the shop for a while with a blown engine basically. Need to find another engine now and get it installed. How many hours would a mechanic take to remove and install an engine? I looked around ebay and saw some for around $1000 but some had a lotta mileage. The shop quoted me $4500 but I am trying to save money. I want to make sure I am putting in a quality engine though and not something with more mileage on it.

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Value of your car is about 5K, I guess. It doesn't make sense to pay 4500 to repair it. Check kbb value deduct 4k and sell it accordingly.
As far as I know, engine and transmission have to be lowered with subframe. It is not easy job but 4500 is a rip off.
Sell it for 1K and buy another one.
Where are you?

I agree, $4500 is pretty expensive. I found good engines online for around $2000 or so shipped. I guess the other $2500 would go to labor and fluids. The shop I take it to is legit though. They used to be the authorized Jaguar repair shop for my town til the dealership in town closed down. They work on all kinds of Jags and various British cars. They are the real experts, that's what I trust taking it there over some hole in the wall shop that usually works on old Hondas and Chevy trucks. I may talk to him about the price though and see if he could do it for $4000. It is a lot of money. I still owe $7500 on the car too, and not having an engine really brings down the resale value drastically. I probably would have a hard time getting $3000 for it without a motor in it. It does have nice suspension parts in it though, but the average person doesn't care much about that kind of stuff. I wanted to hold on it and make it last but within 6 months it's already needing probably the most major repair imaginable.

Jaguar X-type is identical to Mercury Cougar 99-02, Ford Contour 95-02, except transfer case. (But it definitely looks 100x better)
I am sure if repair shop can replace Contour engine, it can replace X-type engine.
