hey guys does anyone know how to install a lower mesh grill. does anyone have instructions or a write up. any help woul be appreciated.

I know how to do it...trouble is I'm lazy so did it my own way. Where you getting the grill from? It should come with instructions.

The "proper" way is to remove the inner plastic from the bumper cover, you know the vertical pieces that the splitter hooks to and then use the supplied brackets and screws to install. I ended up just breaking away all the inner plastic, using the supplied brackets but drilling my own holes in them and installed using stainless steel screws (won't rust). Been that way for three years and still looks new. I bought the Mina Gallery lower grill and I'm sure the instructions were supplied. You can always call them rather than doing it my way.

 

I took it to this spot that specializes in Jaguars and they had to remove the whole bottom bumper and sand off these screws holding the factory lower grill. My grill came from Mina gallery so it came with these brackets and screws which helped the mesh grill stay in place.

 

i havent yet ordered a lower mesh grill. i was just wondering how hard it would be to do and the different ways to do it. for some reason before i start a project on my car i always like to know what im getting into. but thanks for the responses.

 

I piece of my stock grill flew off a while back. Ill eventually get a mesh grill as well. Im debating if I should just take off the stock piece since its current apperance is an eye sore. I've wondered as well how to go about installing an aftermarket grill.

I chose to buy the assembly and spend the extra buck so that way you don't have to modify your factory assembly. Just a simple factory grill removal via a few screws and putting on the new assembly using the same screws.

If you choose to go the less expensive route, you would have to cut out your factory grill and cut off a piece of your assembly in order for the mesh to fit in. Which sometimes ends up being more money if you make a mistake or take it to a mechanic to do so.

I am very happy with my purchase of the full assembly.

For the bottom grill its a different story. If you are mechanic savy in some ways, than it might be fun for you.

For myself, I have no clue when it comes to DIY projects, at least most of them, so I had to take it to my mechanic and they removed the whole bottom bumper and removed the factory splitter by sanding off some screw that was holding it in place to the bumper. Looked confusing to me.

Anyways, let us know what you decide to do and post a picture whenever you get it done

jim.logan, where did or how did you smoke out your side markers like that? and the one under the headlights?

 

jagxtype, i just used some window tint that can be found at any auto store and placed it on the marker and cut it with a sharp utility blade. i.e. exacto knife. its a really simple thing to do and i think it makes my car look much better.

 

or you can use a product called vht, u have to tape though, and make sure you find the right amount of darkness, and keep all the same

 

My car came with the bottom mesh already in place (thank goodness), I love the way it looks but would have no clue how to install it myself...

It is definately worth your investment

i have heard of that VHT paint stuff, but i wanted to do something that was a little less permanent in case i ever wanted to take it off. but if you do not care about taking it off, VHT might be an alternative to window tint, or vinyl tint .

 

i didn't know it was permanent, if it is, i could sand it down, but that recks the lustre of the light. What ever.

 

well its like a spray paint can, so i guess you could use paint remover to remove it? but be careful because if you get any of that paint remover on your paint and it will take the clear coat right off.

 

i like it, i won't be removing it lol, i took mine off when i did them, makes it alot easier, and you get a nice even spray on them

 

jim.logan, How does it hold up in weather? Do you have to keep replacing the tint film every few months or so?

That sounds like a cheap, but dramatic change to the look of the car, IMO.

 

it holds up really well to the weather actually, and yeah i agree it gives the car a sportier touch.
