Default A/C Compressor Valve Spring Mod

I'm planning to perform the TSB's A/C compressor valve spring (JTB00183) on my 2004 Jag 2.5L.
Will I have to remove the compressor or is it pretty simple to access the back of the compressor to do this job without removing the compressor?

Appreciated much!!!

I did this mod last summer very easy to do no need to remove the compressor just need a 10mm wrench back the bolts off evenly so as not to damage the thread the spring is quite strong.
Po remember you will have to get someone to drain the system of refrigerant. took me about 30 mins to complete this does not include the 2 hours i vacuum tested the system once finished.
the only hard part is getting the plate back on with the strong spring just take your time and you will be fine.
Good luck.

Why do you need to replace the spring? Is it high pressure release valve spring?

Thanks for your reply Paulc732!
Could this be done without draining the system? While I'm unscrewing the plate, wouldn't it slowly get draining anyways?
Or, was it hard to drain the system if I were to do it myself?
Thanks again!

Paulc732:
How bad was your A/C prior to the mod?
Mine barely produces cold air especially in a hot day and I have to idle at 3k rpm to make a slight difference, otherwise, it's pretty much warm air.
I did get the system checked out and there isn't any sign of leak. Complete evac and recharge didn't help either at the time.
Thanks!

I had the same problem as you when stopped in traffic or driving with low revs ac was warm. removing the valve and turning it around fixed it great

Default Danger

DO NOT drain the system by removing the plate the valve will hold the pressure and the plate will literally explode in your face!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the AC compressor valve available to replace? I checked with the dealer and they said it was not a part they sold, and I would have to replace the whole compressor.
I am having similar issues on my '05 3.0 X-Type. AC runs great at speed, but blows warm when idling.

Rob, You don't need any new parts except maybe an O ring, you just reverse the position of the valve and spring.

Thank you Norri!
I had the technical bulletin and misread it regarding replacing the valve and spring, as opposed to reversing their order.
Thanks again,
Rob

Just another enquiry on the compressor mod. When you reverse the "piston" and spring, do you put the piston in with the flat side out or do you turn it around so the spring fits neatly on the contours?
I've done it with the flat side out and it's made no difference.

Idt you reverse the piston in orientation, just position as I understand it from all the posts I've seen.

Thanks for your reply Dell...but sorry, do you mean turn the piston around or leave it the same way and just reverse the position of the spring?

Thanks Norri...that's exactly that I did....and found it really easy when I removed the oil filter...was due for an oil change anyway.
Thanks for the attachment..I had it printed off from a previous post but was just making sure I had read it correctly.

Is a dealer the only US source for the oring seal (XR81342) behind the plate on the compressor? Reused the old one and it's leaking :-(

The odd shapped one behind the plate removed for the mod.
Probably get this kit and just use the seal.
Amazon Amazon

Common compressor would think the seal is easier to find.

Edit... found it on ebay but is on the wrong side of the country for me.
Take a week to get here and amazon is overnight. Might be helpful for others...

Also, the beginning of this video explains the purpose of the valve if anyone is curious
