can't get my headlights to work
I'm new to this site but I purchased my first jaguar and need help. I can't get the headlights to turn on. all the other lights work but I can't drive at night because I can't get my headlights on also my whole ac area just doesn't turn on or show anything on the screen like it has no power. I own a 2003 x-type tia for the help
Well, first, if you pull the stalk do the high beam lights come on? If they do, the you probably have both headlamp bulbs burned out. Rare for both to be out at the same time but it can happen. And I assume that you have turned the light switch to the second (headlamp) position?
Have you checked the fuses? The owners manual will tell you which fuses to check and whether they are in the engine compartment or the cabin.
With regard to the climate control screen - have you pushed the on/off button to the left of the screen?
These may seem like silly questions, but you'd be surprised how often people miss the obvious.

The 2nd to last setting is lights on
When in this position you are able to pull the know into two more positions. The first will turn on the front lower lights, the second will turn on the bright red rear fog lights (awesome if some idiot behind you has his high beams on).
Again, obvious stuff to some, a fix for others ;@)
Turning the knob all the way puts it on automatic, so if u do that in the daytime the lights wont come on.

Julian, let's start doing some trouble shooting to try to resolve the light issue.
1. Check fuses 16 and 17 in the fuse box in the engine compartment. The numbers are cast into the fuse box.
2. Remove the dip beam (low beam) cover off of the back of the passenger side headlamp. It is the easiest to remove. The drivers side requires removing the battery.
3. Let's determine what kind of light you have. If there is a wire connector directly attached to the bulb then it is halogen. If the bulb has a square electrical box and a serrated round ring then it is HID.
4. Most are halogen's but a few are OEM HID's.
5. If the connector is directly connected to the bulb unplug it and exam it for heat damage or burning.
6. If the plug is not damaged then remove and replace the halogen bulb and try turning the lights on.
7. If you find that you are equipped with HID's report back and we will have to go a different way for troubleshooting.
8. If you find the plug heat damaged that would indicate a bad ground on the connection. There is a fix for that, but first we need to know the condition.
If you are unsure of what you have take and post a picture of the interior of the light fixture and we can help out.
One other major warning, DISCONNECT the battery before moving past the fuses. It is never a good idea to work on the electrical system with the battery connected.
Good luck and let us know what you find.

I am in Shipley. West Yorkshire. My 2002 X Type. I just paid a small fortune to get my headlights fixed. It came back from auto electrician and reversing lights don't work.
I have managed to obtain reversing light switch at a reasonable cost and intend to do the job myself on Sunday.

Gerry1, from the fact that you have a reverse light switch, that tells me you have a manual tranny. If this is not the case, then you have a switch that will do you no good.
Before you rip into things too much, I would first check fuse F82 to make sure it is not blown. Granted, you are not talking about having the alternator light on your car, so, most likely this fuse is good.
Next, you can prove the switch bad by accessing the top of the tranny and you will see the reverse switch there. You should see a 2 wire plug attached to the switch. Disconnect the switch and then using a small piece of wire, insert the wire into the plug to short the two holes in the plug together. Did your reverse lights come on? If yes, then you have confirmed that the switch is your problem. If no, then you may have other issues going on and replacing the switch will most likely not resolve your issue.
If you need more help, let me know.
