Changed my fuel pump and....... still won't start
I changed the fuel pump and in line filter.
What brand of fuel pump has anyone used? I used airtex, and now once the job is done in hear it's pretty common for them to come from the factory already defective. Has anyone else used airtex and had this trouble?
Also I'm going to check the battery to make sure it didn't die out on me since it sat pretty well dead for a month.
Anyway, any other ideas?

Is the pump you have fitted designed to work in an electronic returnless fuel system as fitted to the X Type?
The engine control module (ECM) maintains a set pressure across the injectors, by increasing the pulse width modulation signal to the fuel pump controller. This in turn controls the voltage output to the fuel pump, cancelling the need for a fuel return line.

I've been pretty busy lately. Which sucks because I really need this car to run.
Yes the pump is on and pumping fuel (I can feel and hear it going through the filter).
The car turns over like normal, I even took the battery in and had it fully charged and tested, and it's perfectly fine.
As for the inertia switch, I've checked that after every couple times I crank it.
And yes I'm 100% certain it is the correct pump.
I talked to a guy that's been a mechanic for quite some time and owns his own shop. He said he's always had bad luck with airtex brand pumps. So unless there's anything I'm missing, I guess the next step is to check fuel pressure, then possibly do the job over again..
Also what exactly is needed to check fuel pressure? Being the Schrader valve was removed in this model year.

xtype non start
Having lived with my xtype's inconsistent starting (sometimes a dozen cranks to get it going) Sometimes it just fired straight away. I am now unable to start over the last two days.
Diagnostics tell me that it may be ECU or Crankcase strobe sensor -
I have tested fuel pump - plenty of pressure. I have replaced fuel filter. I have replaced Crankcase strobe sensor (second hand unit - awaiting another to try).
The car when it runs goes beautifully.
One thread dealing with this issue which suggests is a common problem with the Xtype (around 8 -12 years old) solved the problem by installing a new crankshaft strobe sensor... this gives one hope. I am however in the same position as yourself - I need the dam car to work now.
I can say that I will replace the camshaft sensor when it arrives. Thereafter take it to a diagnostics specialist who is able to repair the ECM if faulty.
In any event I will let you know if/when I solve this problem - please do likewise, that way we help each other.
kind regards Ray
