It is always helpful to list the type of vehicle, MY and engine type when posting on these forums.

The 'left bank' is normally Bank2 on the LH side of the vehicle when viewed from the driver's position.

I just noticed your other post as a new member. With the X400, Bank2 is the side closest to the front of the vehicle since the engine is transverse.

Welcome to the forum Tracy,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

Tracy: This post and the one that follows has pictures showing the locations of all 4 O2 sensors and their electrical connections: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...4/#post1084230

It would be help to know the error code, and more about your X-Type, e.g., mileage, engine, (2.0L, 2.5L, 3.0L), gasoline or diesel, how is it running.....

Default 02 Sensors

For a 2003 X Type 3.0 is there a difference in left bank or right bank or are they all the same. I'm looking at buying and replacing mine but I can't tell the difference.

gajos, there is no difference in the sensors between left and right banks. However, there is a difference between the upstream sensor (aka, Sensor 1) and the down stream sensor (aka, Sensor 2). So, you still need to pay some attention as to which sensor you are getting. Sometimes, they will also refer to the sensors this way:

Sensor 1; upstream sensor; air-to-fuel sensor

Sensor 2; downstream sensor; oxygen sensor

Both the upstream and down stream sensors measure oxygen levels, how they do it is different and why you need to pay attention.

be careful what you order as i've ordered 1 and fitted it and getting same fault code, but mine was listed on ebay as for use in either pre or post cat!!!

so what is written in the post above this says the two read differently!!!

HEATED OXYGEN SENSORS MONITOR DRIVE CYCLE
Upstream (Universal) oxygen sensors:
1 Engine OFF; cooling fans inoperative > 20 seconds.
2 Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
3 Drive the vehicle between 3000 – 4000 rpm at a steady speed. Lift foot completely off accelerator and coast to a stop within 30 seconds. Do not touch accelerator
pedal for 4 seconds after coming to a stop.
4 Repeat step 3.
5 Idle engine for 11 minutes.
