Cigarette lighter not working
I just bought a 2002 X-type and love it except I can't get the cigarette lighter to work. The cigarette lighter itself works fine and pops out in 2-3 seconds glowing red, but I can't get anything else to work out of it. I travel a lot and not being able to plug in the GPS is really getting to be a pain! I've tried three different accessories and none get power. I've tried them all in my wife's BMW and they work fine. Anyone have any idea what this might be?
Thanks!

I just tried it again pushing it in and spinning it around. It only flashes every once in a while showing that it is getting power. It definitely cannot go in any further, but I cannot seem to ever get steady power. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Unfortunately the jag is fussy as to what it wants in the cig lighter. You might try finding a "universal" adapter, the kind that gives you 2 cig lighter adapters...plug that into your cig lighter, then your GPS.
Some of the "appliances" we like to plug in have a 'setting' on the input plug as to how much theground terminal sticks out. I have run into this before on numerous rental carswhere it won't work until I move the 'slider' so I get total ground contact.
Just a thought...

Thanks guys! I'll try some of your tips hopefully today and let you know if that fixed it!
Thanks again!

I ended up hardwiring a couple of 12v cig outlets behind the radio/hvac panel, pulling current from the stock cig outlet. Then plugged in the GPS and satellite radio power leads and ran them out to the units. Makes for a nice finished look. However not much portability with the GPS unit. YOu could pull current from the stocker and wire up the ford version and leave it lay in the ashtray. Then you would have 2.
