Default Confused

I've been looking at jaguar forums trying to find an easy way to fit a d/din stereo to my 2003 x type with premium sound.ive come to the conclusion if i disconnect the optic cable so losing the sub and cdc I would be able to fit d/din stereo.but am still not sure how I would connect the rear door speakers to the head unit any ideas would be a great help thank you.

pickasho, first off, do you have a head unit with nav in it. If so, you will have a lot of work ahead of you.

Next, do you have the upgraded sound system or the generic sound system (ie, do you have tweeters in the front doors or not)?

Once I know the above information, I can send you a diagram of how to wire things up. You may or may not have an internal amplifier. So, you may need to get what is called a "Line to RCA adapter". This will lower the voltages going to the amp to something that will not damage the amp. As for the sub and cd changer, this is going to be a price to pay for doing what you are after unless you add in an external amp to power the subs and use the RCA output to send the sub signal to the amp. Changer, well, unless you are getting an older Alpine head unit, odds are, nothing is going to adapt to make it work. You would be best off either finding a unit that still has a CD changer or simply finding a head unit with a SD card input (can put 100's of CDs on to a single SD card, I do this in my 2012 XJ now).

Also, PM me your e-mail address and I will send you the diagrams for the radio so you know what wires will need to go where.

Thanks Thermo,I don't use the cdc and I am not bothered amount using the sub that's fitted under the rear parcel shelf ,I thought that if i didn't use these I could just use the amp that is built into the d/din head unit,l do have the tweeters in the doors but have no sat nav and no controls on the steering wheel,as I am getting on in years i only listen to my radio and not usually very loud.but would like sat nav as now I'm getting older I tend to get lost more often thanks again for your reply.

pickasho, I would say to do some looking at find a good NAV double DIN and consider putting that in. I would also say to replace your door speakers. Get some good 2 way speakers and simply run new wires into the doors. For what you are wanting, new 6.5" speakers are going to do everything that you need. It is a little more work, but any competent car stareo shop will install it all for fairly cheap. Granted, you are probably looking at about $1000 USD for the whole setup. But, this would be a drop off the car in the morning, by mid afternoon you should be able to pick up the car with all said and done.
