Cruise not working

Cruise not working
Further to my post regarding the check engine light the cruise control also does not work, if I operate the switch after starting up Cruise on and off shows up in the display but noting happens when I try to set the speed or if I press resume first. If I press cancel it shows cruise off in the display and the cruise on / off switch will not put the cruise back on. The display never shows cruise inoperative.
The diagnostic shows clutch pedal switch inoperative could it be something as simple as a faulty switch on the brake pedal or something more

Jocurran, the cruise in our cars is wired to a few things that will automatically disengage the system. You have 4 things that will kill the cruise system. The obvious ones are the CRUISE ON/OFF button and the CANCEL buttons. That is what most people are aware of. But, the brake pedal is also wired in there that when the brake pedal is depressed, it will disable cruise (cruise is still powered on, but you have to RESUME at this point). The other, since you have a manual, is the clutch switch. If you push in on the clutch, this will do the same function as the brake switch. So, if you re having issues with your clutch switch, that is most likely the problem with your cruise.

Jocurran, just to ask the silly question, did you just recently (ie, just before the cruise issue start) replace the ECU/ECM? If so, it is possible that the ECM got programmed wrong and it has the manual programming in it and that would cause what you are seeing as it is not seeing the clutch switch (ie, because your car doesn't have it) and that is causing the cruise failure. It would still allow the car to start as it is looking for an open clutch switch (ie, you have the clutch depressed). But, the cruise would be looking for a closed clutch switch which it won't find.

Thanks for previous replies, Thermo you were quite right in your previous thread, Thanks.
As I was in Wales I took the car to a reputable Indie and he ran a scan and found
a) The check engine light had been disabled in the ecu software
b) The ecu had been replaced sometime and one from a manual car had been fitted, they haven't been bothered even to change the VIN No in it
I should be getting the correct auto Ecu fitted and programmed today.
It would be interesting to find out when and where it was changed, the previous indie in the SE of England who ran a scan with the same scan gear didn't find any of the above so I don't think I will be going back to them
