Default Dealership charging more now than when I bought 2 years ago!

I picked up my 05 jag for $14,500 usd oct 09 with 32k miles on the dash.
When I went to the dealer yesterday for service I had an opportunity to poke around the lot to see what they had.
They had an 05 x type for 18k, and an 06 for 19.5k.
What the @$&"!
That's quite a bit more than I paid for an x type that was newer at the time!
The 05 was nearly identical to mine too!
My wife was thinking about picking one up because she assumed that she could get one for at least under 16k for an 06. Now her eyes are wandering to Mercedes!

As an owner of an 07 C 280 4 Matic and 07 X Type. I can vouch that the X is the better car. Just my humble opinion

Actually there is a world wide shortage of X Types, most having succumbed to electrical failure. All of us X typers who can still drive the cars will be reaping the benefits. I'm holding out for 6 figures.

Does it have something to do with a shortage of used cars all around? I've read reports that less people are buying new cars, and more people than ever are buying used cars - driving the price of used cars.

Yep, thats what I read somewhere too. So I paid 4 figures for my X, and now its worth 5 figures - and when it hits six figures, I'll think about selling out....

Bahahaha! Doesn't there have to be a lot of demand for something before there can be a 'shortage' ....?

I got a letter from my dealer wanting me to trade in my car. Or they would simply purchase the vehicle! They say in the coming months there will be a shortage in their pre-owned Jaguar inventory. Strange part about all of this "shortage" or "demand" thing is my car is currently for sale and it is the cheapest X for 500 miles from me according to cars.com yet there has been little interest. Is there some sort of media propaganda campaign going on?

All dealerships do that. They don't want to buy your car; They want you to come in and buy a new car. All dealerships do that.

Most people have no cash to buy cars these days. Most cars are financed and hence if you're doing a private sale you'll have a hard time getting someone to buy since car loans are not as easy to come by.

Did you try listing it on www.autotrader.com ? I recently had to look for a 2000-2006 XK8 coupe, and in the entire US there were 19 listed on AutoTrader (all colors, all mileages, etc), and they typically have as many listings as anyone. About half of the ones I checked on had already been sold, the only reason I managed to get the one I did was I called the first day it was listed. It's a tight market.

Ya, for the last 12 months or so I looked around for a '07 or '08 to replace my '05. I've really enjoyed my X-Type and I was trying to stretch out my ownership for a long as I thought possible. I had no luck.

My '05 has the Nav unit and almost none of the later models seemed to have that option. I wanted to get another Jaguar Select car with the warranty but couldn't find one that had what I wanted.

So, I bought the Ford extended warranty and I'm stick'n with what I have.

I have a 2005 and if memory serves I think they sold less than 11,000 of them that year and it only went down from there. So, trying to find a later model X is harder simply because so few were made and because they are newer probbaly a good many are still with their original owners. Still, they are certainly out there if you are patient and would be willing to travel a bit if you find the perfect car for you.

I remember getting one of those letters once from the local Hyundai dealer, offering to "buy back" my Sonata.
