Default dent and scratch on the rear bumper cover

Hi, got a dent and scratch on the rear bumper cover (plastic), as shown below. Will the scratch spread? How much will it cost to fix? Thanks,

Ran

My local body shop wanted $1100 (IIRC) to replace the plastic bumper cover on my XF. Much of the cost was to paint and color match it, again IIRC.

ooooooh, that looks expensive. Generally, dents with creases are super expensive to fix. Like Randy said, the paint and labour to color match is a lot, but I don't think $1100 is reasonable. I think somewhere around $600 is closer, but take it to a local body shop for an estimate!

Last year I grazed my front door in a parking lot. I got a few estimates - it was from $450 to $ 1,100 or so. I went with a highly recommended shop that asked for $550 or so. The work was flawless. The matching was perfect.

The graze on my door looked a lot worse than that. It was a concrete piller.

Thanks for all your replies. I asked a local body shop and they said only around 75 dollars to fix the problem, which is hard to believe compared with your cost above.

That's good , when I first saw your image on your dent I thought that should not become a big deal .
Make sure they will match your paint color though

Geez, $75 to fix that? That sounds waaaay too cheap. On the other hand, it's so cheap that it might be worth a shot. If they don't do a good job you are only out $75. Might be a calculated risk worth pursuing, but chancs are you get what you pay for. At the very least completely understand what they will be doing to get a comfort level that they may be competent.. Hope whatever avenue you choose it works out well for you.

The damage in the attached picture was my 2007 Volvo C70.
Dent in the plate surround panel and 2 holes in the bumper cover from the other cars license plate bolts. Estimates ranged from $1600 to $3400.
I also noticed you have the back up sensors, which I DID NOT have, and understand that becomes a large repair issue in it's own.
Fortunately I never had to get it repaired, the accident happened AFTER I had a deal set on my new 2011 Jaguar XF, and the dealer took it as is, and readjusted the trade in for the $1600 est.

The cover could be repaired. To do it correctly it needs to be removed. Bit of a chore on an S type, not familiar with the X. And of course the chrome blades removed...carefully so they don't break.

My estimate would be around 500 bucks.

Don't expect a dead nuts perfect match. Urethane covers seldom match perfectly even from the factory. Several factors but a different substrate makes the paint react differently. That's from PPG, I didn't make it up.

$75 is nuts. A typical pint of basecoat would cost that much. Then there is the clearcoat plus primer, filler ect. And I imagine most people would want to make a profit. I'd like to hear the explaination of the 75 dollar repair process. And I don't think that will buff out.

Just read the other post. The reverse sensors aren't such a big deal. They unplug and remove from the cover with a little patience. Now some new Ford covers come without the holes. They give you a template and instructions how to make the holes. That becomes a project. Fixing the original cover, all you have to do is take em out and snap back in after paint.
