Default ECU issue?

Hi, I have a 2006 2.0d SE estate (146k) that just cut out while driving normally, (doing around 30 mph, normal urban road, dry day) and it won't crank on the key since. No warning lights, no unusual behaviour or noises, simply died . The ignition lights come on as normal and the peripheral electrics work but nothing happens when the key is turned to start it.

The recovery service diagnostics reads : Engine control - 38X / EEC5-EDC Common RailP1582 - Unknown fault. Error Message : .P1000 - OBD system tests. Error Message : Operation not completed.

It's beyond my limited ability to understand , I'd appreciate any insight you guys may have that might point me towards getting it fixed.

Try resetting the inertia switch, if not try the wiring trace

A common problem for the petrol x-types is corrosion of the battery cables internally. The next time it shuts off, immediately open the bonnet and check the battery cables for overheating. The one to hot to touch may be your problem. It will start back up after the cable cools down. P1000 just means that all monitors have not yet set. When internal checks are complete it will turn to P1111.

Thanks for the info guys, t tried the Inertia switch but it made no difference unfortunately so it's still a mystery to me, The battery leads are good and it's had a couple of days to cool down if they were too hot at any point and it's a diesel not petrol if that alters the thinking around that potentialiality. but again, thanks for the heads up.
