Engine Misfire when hot (sounds like its sucking air)
Hi, I have a 2.0L X-Type (2006) and replaced Ignition coils and plugs around 3 months ago due to it misfiring. the car was perfect again until now. I replaced an O ring as it was leaking coolant (2 days ago), drove to work the next morning and had no problem. that evening I topped up the fuel tank and drove home. about 10km (15 minutes) later i felt the revs drop... it felt a little like it did before i replaced the plugs and coils. This morning on cold start it was fine, no misfire at all. On the way to work (again about 20 minutes later) the revs dropped again, this time it was worse... the car jerked once or twice and after about 2k revs it was smooth again. on idle it sounds like its sucking air... any ideas?
Hi, I've checked all around the inlet manifold and can't seem to find an EGR??
Some posts indicate that there may not be one.
The problem is a little worse now, still fine for
The 1st 20minutes of driving... Then won't go
Over 3000 revs.

ROshan, get yourself a piece of tygon tubing (1/4" - 6mm) that is about 4 feet (1.3M). Start the engine and get it warm enough to get it to start making the air sucking sound. NOw, with the tube, place one end near your ear (DO NOT!!!!!! form a seal to your ear) and then run the other end of the tube past every joint you can find. Run it along the intake. What you are wanting to hear is the sucking sound to get really loud in your ear. Where ever the other end of the tube is, that is where you have your vacuum leak. Odds are, you should also have the Check Engine Light along with 2 codes in the computer (P0171 and P0174). Let us know where on the engine you are hearing the sucking sound and then we can give you some specific information about the repair that will need to be done.
At a guess, one of your intake o-rings has moved on you and it is now causing a big vacuum leak. But, that is just a guess. The tube check will take you a long way.

Hello again, took your advice thermo, the sound appeared to be coming from the front of the car... I removed the air filter and it was louder, seemed to be coming from that little mechanism that the air filter sends air into (has the accelerator cable attached to it).
