Engine swap

Engine swap
Hey everyone, new here. I've been given the opportunity to pick up an 02 2.5 for fairly cheap, but it needs an engine (Which seems to be rather common). I do have mechanical experience and was considering just doing it myself. Is there anything special or weird going on under that hood that would completely screw me over? Like I dunno any Jag specific tools or anything? Thanks in advance and I hope to be apart of this community very soon!

Look around there is another thread where a fellow has a picture gallery of his engine removal (actually there are a couple of those).
Big issue is that the engine needs to come out the bottom. Both threads show the engine being attached to a platform and then the car being lifted (tilted) up away from the engine/transmission.
It's not a job for the faint of heart...

I'd really [really] question the condition of the transmission in this X-Type if the engine already went, unless it's a manual. The reason you don't see many higher mileage X-Types is because the auto transmission is such crap. Once my X-Type hits 50K (only at 39K now), I'll start counting backwards to its demise at around 100K.

Cheap as in for a grand. I kinda know the guy selling it, he's older and doesn't really want the hassle anymore, so his loss is my gain, I think. It does have 105k on it and it's auto. Interior is clean, outside has normal wear and tear for the year. My wife really likes the car and we haven't really found any other ones for sale privately. And the few we found used at the dealer were just over priced.

A grand is pretty cheap for such a nice car, but like I said before, at 105K, be very wary of the tranny. just my 2 cents.
