Actually there is a way to check gauge function....
With the ignition totally off press and hold the trip reset button.
Keep holdling the button and start the car
In a few seconds you should get the diags menu on themessage centerscreen
Use the trip button to toggle through the menus, this should give
you error codes and reset the lights and test the guages.
cheers

On the earlier models the procedure is a bit different.
Hold the Trip Reset button on the turn signal stalk and start the engine.
When the engine starts wait until you see the "TEST" message in the message center display
Release the Trip Reset button
Then press the Trip Resest button to cycle through the various menu options
It will test all the warning lights, "shake" the gages and then go into the error code list.
You'll need to press the Trip Reset button to cycle through the different diagnostics

P.S. There are *MANY* more "easter eggs" that are hidden in the X-Type <grin>

I have no desire to be a moderator, thanks anyway. I'll be happy to share my knowledge of some 30years owning a Jaguar. But I am just like you. I own them, I drive themand I love them. I am no technician. I don't profess to know everything about them. All I have is my experience with one of the finest vehicles that ever rolled off an assembly line (that I can afford!).
