What year X-Type? Common issue through 2004 seems to be the TPS. The thing is the TPS can't be replaced and you have to replace the whole throttle body. There is a write up on how to clean the throttle and better seal the TPS from moisture. Do you have any codes? For $100 bucks you can get a Lemur Bluetooth diagnostic and see what codes are coming up. If you have a P2135 chances are it's the Throttle Body or Pedal Assembly. They talk to each other to make sure the throttle opens up based on the RPM's. If they are off, I think, 4.5% for more than a second the code with throw. Very sensitive. If it is the throttle check out Jagbits. Second best price I found and Gary offers a 5% discount to forum members.
I agree about the battery. Our cars are very sensitive to the strength of the battery. They can pretty much fail without warning. Seeing as the car sat for three weeks is kind f a clue. You might be able to jump it and maybe it would be fine, but if the battery has any age on it at all it would probably be best to just buy a new one for the peace of mind. Next time it would go out would probably be somewhere away from home.
I had the same issue and it turned out to be the battery. In my case I had only left the car sitting for a few hours at work. I would also recommend an OEM Jag battery, the cost difference is negligible and when I tried an aftermarket battery it just made things worse.
