Gearbox fault, amber light, and a burnt smell

I had hoped to never post to this thread again but here I am.
After having the transmission and torque converter rebuilt professionally I was able to drive my X-Type with a fair amount of faith that the transmission woes were behind me. The car was due to go back for a check after the first month post open-box-surgery but it was a little longer before that could occur. Without detecting any issues a Transmission Fault warning was displayed on the instrument panel along with the amber light. I drove a short distance to work or home without further symptoms and turned the car off. When I came back to it and turned it on the warnings were gone and the car drove along as normal. It happened a couple of times but each time turning the engine off and coming back to it would see the warnings removed. I was able to drive the car 200 kilometers back to the repairer without incident for the inspection and I left the car with them for the week while I was away from home. Having told them about the warning and left it with them for 4 days I rang them and was told the transmission had been removed from the vehicle and inspected. They found that the new friction material bonded to the converter had failed and a section had come adrift and had found its way through the transmission. The transmission was stripped down and cleaned to remove the debris and another new filter had been installed before it subsequently went back together.
I have since collected the car and driven it home the same 200km and am once again using it frequently. I am happy to say that so far there have been no warnings displayed. I am also happy to say that the refresh of the transmission and repair to the converter cost me nothing but time and a little fuel as they honoured the 2 year warranty promised after the initial rebuild. Only time will tell where this thread will end but I am hopeful and grateful that eventually I was able to find professionals to complete the work. Sure the converter repair should not have failed especially so soon but it appears things have been rectified.
