Default Gettin' Ziebarted today.

Taking the car in to have it undercoated and rust-protected today. 10 years old and not a spec of rust. But, while it was being garage-kept for the past 10 years, now its out in the open.

Hoping to keep it rust free for another 10. Ziebart gives a 5 year warranty on used cars. 10 year on new.

The chemical also helps with noise deadening, so that's a welcomed bonus.

If Ziebart is still using a hard coating, it is not the desired solution because water gets trapped behind the coating when it cracks. The preferred method in snow country is oil based spraying which stays flexible.

Car is in the shop getting the treatment now. And I'm out at lunch. My understanding is that its a flexible coating. Will confirm once its done. I'll post pix too.

Ziebart - there's a name I haven't heard in more than twenty years.

It used to be an extremely popular treatment for new vehicles in the UK throughout 1970's and early 80's and then seemed to disappear from the market entirely.

That's because they figured out how to deliver a car from the factory that didn't rust... seriously... cars don't "rot out" anymore

All done. Its a tacky coating that will haze over, but never harden. You could put your fingernail through it if you wanted to.

Smells like peppermint, kind of.

Best part about it is the noise-deadening. It brought the cabin noise down enough that I noticed it immediately. To top it off, it must have also reduced body vibrations, because a lot of my interior plastic clicks and ticks disappeared too.

Worth the $325.00 for the peace of mind.

Find some of the threads from UK based members with photos of the rot. Their annual MOT inspections include underbody integrity.
