Default Getting a little worried here...

Hey guys...
So far, I love my X-type. It's a 2002 3.0 liter sport with the 5-Speed manual transmission and has 83,000 miles. The only thing thats beginning to worry me is that sometimes... whether it be a downshift or an upshift..

It wont want to go into 4th on the first movement and it feels like it gets stuck at the gate until i put it back to the nuetral position and try again but a little harder. Happened about 3 times since I got the car... Is it normal for the shifter just to get stuck sometimes or is it something I should be concerned about?

I have heard that on these cars the flywheel and clutch tend to come loose...
Maybe that is the problem?

It also does it from 5 to 4...
Are the gates rubber? Maybe they just got bent from a shift?

And how much would a synchronizer be to replace?
I am unfamiliar with transmission repairs..

One way to check if it is Syncro's..Is to double clutch...Clutch once to go from 4th to Neutral, then Let out and then push in again to go into 5th..and same dealin down shifting..if the transition is smooth without a hitch, then more than likely it is a syncromesh problems..and thatinvolves removal of the transmission to fix.

Ok i tried the double clutching this morning.
Its smoother to go into ANY gear that way.. but not a huge difference.

Automatics are usually 3 to 4 thou to repair so for a standard I'm guessing 2 to 3 thou.

Alright, Thanks guys! But hey big brother, where is the trans gear lube located? The only fluid I know of for manual transmissions is the brake fluid..

The drain is on the bottom of the tranny and the fill hole is on the side.

Drain old Lube oil..then reinstall plug
