Default half-shaft splitter. help?

Hey y'all. I need some help.
This weekend, I'm working on the front end of the car. Replacing springs, struts, brakes, etc. etc.

I'm also replacing a leaky right-side half-shaft seal (at the t-case)
Here's the problem: I can't seem to separate the half-shaft from what I'd call the T-case out-put shaft. JTIS says I need a special tool (307-442, see it here: http://jaguar.spx.com/PDF/Cabinet_3_Drawers.pdf )

Have any of y'all ever done this procedure? I have a large 'pickle-fork' (ball-joint separator) that won't even get it started. IS there something I'm missing? what do I really need here?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

from the JTIS, it appears that it CAN in fact be changed, as the seal itself is the same diameter as the link shaft, and should slip over the shaft, without having to remove the link-shaft. (SORT-of confirmed by my dealer ) But it is necessary to separate the half-shaft from it. Interestingly, my dealer told me that they CANNOT GET parts for the T-case, because it is "non-serviceable". But they sold me the seal just fine.

here: check this link, I've scanned-in the blow-up that the dealer printed for me when I bought the seal.

we're talking about seal #6

On a side-note: what does that o-ring seal between the link-shaft and the half-shaft do? Is that really a wet-? Why? Why would you POSSIBLY want to have oil all the way out the length of that link-shaft?

well, a few good yanks and the link-shaft will be coming-out with it.... I know, 'cuz I already tried that.
I get something like 7-3/4" (200mm) of link-shaft movement before I get to throw-away the T-case and start again.... Not something I want to be doing. On my first good pull, the link-shaft came-out about 3".

And this is a really funny post... since we're talking about 'yank-ing', and 7-3/4" and all.....

well, after much grief, I got 'er done.
New seals. New half-shaft on the left-side, since I discovered it was in poor shape as I was replacing brakes, springs and struts.
New Brakes / springs / struts all the way around.
New fluid in the T-case, Diff and Manual Gearbox.
new "scoop-thingy" to divert air to the t-case.

what else...... ? ?

oh yeah: new smell inside.... one that doesn't smell like hot-90wt oil!

I'd like to say the things like a new car... but it's really not. The Jag suspension is still too soft for me (even after going with the 'sport' springs and struts).
But at least I can quit worrying about it all......

aha!
I did the Belts the week after I bought it, and since it's a new T-case (sometime shortly before I bought it) I'm hoping they did a clutch too! ?? ! ??

That would be nice if it was already done....Next I would change the anti-freeze and purge the brake fluid (if you haven't already) and do the same for the clutch fluid...and then I'd call it like new.

okay. as funny as I think I am, the post that was here before I erased it just made me look like an immature A**.....[&:]

So I'll do a little write-up for it later, when I'm in a little less sarcastic mood.

I'm gonna go drink myself into a stupor.
