Default Hard wire for radar detector

Hi folks, I had just recently bought a V1 radar/laser detector and was interested in hard wiring to the X-type. I have it mounted pretty high up just below thevisor areain frontof the rear view mirror.I was wondering what procedures any of you have used to get a switchable 12Vpowersource. I was thinkingof something up near the lights and door opener buttons on the ceiling due towhere the detector is mounted.

TIA!

Wire it to the cig lighter. It will only come on when the car is running. This way, you never have to turn it off or on.

That's what i did with mine anyway...

Details please. Where did you run the wires? Didyou just mount it on/near the dash? Can you do this with any radar detector?

Mount the radar up high, and run the wires down the drivers side or passengers piller. Tap into the cig lighter....

Thank you for the ideas. I will have to look in JTIS to see how the A-pillar comes off.

Oh real quick, where did your wires come out up top near the ceiling. Did they come out of the A-pillar or was it near the overhead dome lights?

When done properly, the wrie will run up top, about center with the rear view mirror and into the overhead console.Snake it throughto the piller and run down the inner piller. From there you can tap into the fuse boxcig lighter circuit orcontinue to run under steering colum and up to cig lighter.

Not to steal a post, but i am surprised yours cig. lighter power cuts off after car is turn off. My cig. lighter outlet keeps on working regardless of car being on or off. 02 2.5 Auto Is that a problem or specific for that year?

Anyone?

Hmmm, might be just specific to your year...The the 05's don't have power to anything when key is in the off position.
