headlight switch removal
Left hand drive 2005 X-Type with auto lights and trip function buttons. Others must be similar.
1 - Remove the main knob. It is held on by a clip at the center shaft. Release the clip by pressing on it through the access hole. The access hole is located at about 6:30 assuming the pointer is 12:00. Some knob positions allow the knob to be pulled towards you and that helps. I used the short end of a 7/64 inch allen wrench.
2 – Remove the cover plate. Pry and prod. Use your head. There will be small bits of broken plastic, but it will all reassemble fine, if you used your head!
3 – Release the spring loaded latch located a bit left of center top. There are two lesser latches on both sides near the bottom. I didn’t do it, but in hindsight, a thin piece of metal might help release those latches.
4 – Boom! It’s in your hands and there is plenty of wire length to allow you to unplug it.
I don’t think the switch can be removed in one piece without damaging the interior. That upper latch is serious. Show me to be wrong!
