Default Headlights dim when turning steering wheel

My headlights dim when I turn the steering wheel back and forth sometimes. Can anyone see if their X-Type does the same thing?

I doubt they should - loose wire / chafed harness / bad "clockspring"? (See workshop manual for how it all works.)

Guernz, sounding like your serpentine belt is slipping due to the power steering pump putting too much load on the belt. You can try parking the car and opening the hood. Connect a multimeter across the battery and start the car. You should be getting 13.7 VDC (actual value doesn't matter at this point, but remember the number). Now, turn on your headlights and with the car stationary, turn the wheels back and forth as you watch the headlights/multimeter. If you see the headlights dim, did the multimeter drop down to 12.6 VDC or less? If so, then this confirms that the serpentine belt is slipping and is slowing down the alternator. If the voltage is remaining constant, then you most likely have a wiring issue and would require further investigation.
