Default help! greasy/oily part

Hello everyone,

I took a look at my engine as I wanted to have a visual inspection before servicing it, which I plan on doing next week.

I noticed that a part was kind of oily/greasy.

I don't exactly know what that part actually is and whether I should be overly worried about it being oily/greasy.

On the picture I've joined, it's the part highlighted in green.

Any help/advice appreciated!

Many thanks!

I forgot to mention: it's a 2006 2.2d X Type Estate model.

Looks like the starter motor...It shouldn't be oily..Maybe leaking down from above somewhere on to it.

Might be coming from the power steering pump that's just above it.
I noticed my power steering fluid was a bit low (just on the lower mark of the measuring shaft in the power steering fluid cap).
The leak is not severe.

If so, do you know if those "power steering stop leak" additives are recommended on an X Type and if they actually work ??

Personally, I wouldn't use any kind of stop leak in the P/S pump..I would try to fix the leak or replace the pump....messing with the steering is a big concern of mine.
